  • Timothy J. Plaisier

    Timothy J. Plaisier, Funeral Director / Owner

    Tim was raised in Spring Lake, Michigan and graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School. He attended Ferris State University, graduating with an Associate's degree in architecture and a Bachelor's degree in facilities management. After working in the truss design and engineered lumber industry for sixteen years, he felt called to take a new career path in funeral service. Tim worked for Sytsema Funeral Homes in Muskegon, Michigan. During this time he attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois and in August of 2013, purchased Pederson Funeral Home. He has been married to his wonderful wife Tonya for over twenty-four years, and with her, they are raising their three boys, William, Andrew and Daniel.

  • David L. Germain

    David L. Germain, Funeral Director

    David grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. He attended Xavier University and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. David is also a veteran of service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He formerly owned the Germain Funeral Home in Howard City, Michigan, where he currently resides. David has been a licensed funeral director for more than fifty years and has been with Pederson Funeral Home for over fifteen years. David has two grown children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren of whom he is immensely proud. Also, two adopted cats Liam and Lancelot who happen to be brothers.

  • Joshua Marsh Gatiss

    Joshua Marsh Gatiss, Funeral Director

    Josh was born and raised in Munising, Michigan, in the beautiful Upper Peninsula, and graduated from Munising High School. He attended the University of South Alabama, while living in Fairhope, with a concentration in International Relations and Terrorism Studies. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Film Studies. While attending NMU, Josh met his wife Amanda. In 2012, Josh moved to the Chicago area to attend the Worsham College of Mortuary Science and worked as a student associate for Wenban Funeral Home in Lake Forest, Illinois. Joshua started his apprenticeship for Pederson Funeral Home in September of 2013 and became a licensed funeral director in 2014. Josh lives in Rockford with his wife and dog Marty.

  • Brandon M. Poortenga

    Brandon M. Poortenga, Funeral Director

    Brandon was born and raised in Colon, Michigan. He has graduated and earned degrees from both Ferris State University and Worsham College of Mortuary Science. While attending Mortuary College, Brandon worked as a student associate for Cumberland Chapels in Norridge, Illinois. Brandon started his apprenticeship at Pederson Funeral Home in April of 2016 and became a licensed funeral director in the spring of 2017. Outside of work, Brandon enjoys spending time outdoors with his girlfriend and their adopted greyhound.

  • Chrystal Newman

    Chrystal Newman, Pre-Planning Adviser

    Although she is originally from Kansas, Chrystal moved to Michigan in 1988 to attend law school. She graduated Cum Laude from Cooley Law School and practiced as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. Chrystal currently handles all preneed contracts at Pederson in addition to being the military veteran specialist. She also oversees all community education programs.

    While it is important to grieve the death of a loved one, she believes it is also vital to remember that the preplanning process can be used as a vehicle to encourage those left behind to remember to celebrate death as a life well lived. Her greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that through preplanning, she has given families not only peace of mind but has assisted them in protecting their financial estate as well.

    Vicki Winske, Office Manager

    Hi I am the Office Manager for Pederson Funeral Home. I have worked for Tim Plaisier for 4 years. Before Pederson Funeral Home I worked 29 years for Fifth Third Bank FKA Old Kent Bank in various positions. I have been married for almost 31 years to the love of my life, Karl. And, we live in Sparta, MI. We have one grown son, who is married to a lovely ginger girl. We are also adoptive parents to a furry guy we call Pete Pete.

    Dan was born in London, England and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He spent several years at Michigan Tech University in the Upper Peninsula and then 28 years working for Steelcase. Dan loves spending time on the green and in the off-season, traveling to warmer climates with his wife Teresa. Dan has two step-children, Stephanie and Todd, and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Haley, and Taylor. He is also a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Sparta.
